CarePartners Outpatient Services: Wheelchair Seating & Mobility Clinic

Shoes that fit properly are essential for comfort, support, and the ability to get around. The same is true for a wheelchair. CarePartners Wheelchair Seating & Mobility Clinic provides custom fittings for people who
use wheelchairs.
Special expertise in the proper use and fitting of wheelchairs and seating systems.
Children and adults who use manual or power wheelchairs can get help from the seating and wheelchair mobility experts at CarePartners. Our physical therapists (PTs) have advanced training to assist wheelchair users in improving their posture, decreasing their pain and finding the right equipment for their seating and mobility needs to be as independent as possible.
Proper fitting starts with a comprehensive evaluation.
Individuals of all ages and diagnoses can receive a comprehensive evaluation to determine what kind of wheelchair and seating system will meet their unique needs. A team of experts participates in the evaluation and recommendations, including our Seating & Wheelchair Mobility Specialists, treating therapists, suppliers and the case manager. The client and family/caregivers are an important part of the team.
“Try before you buy.”
Sample wheelchairs, seat and back cushions, and accessories are available in the Seating Clinic for clients to try before purchasing. Computerized pressure mapping systems are available to determine the best cushion for pressure relief and weight distribution. This helps to prevent and/or assist in the healing of pressure ulcers. Custom contoured seat and back cushions are often molded for clients with mild to severe orthopedic spinal deformities.
Training in how to use the equipment is an important part of our service.
CarePartners experts work closely with a variety of rehab technology and durable medical equipment (DME) suppliers. Once the equipment recommendation is completed, our specialists provide the necessary documentation to the supplier to obtain funding approval.
The wheelchairs and seating systems are delivered by the supplier to the client in the Seating Clinic, where our physical therapist/seating clinic specialists assist in the adjustments for a correct fit and to provide training in the care and safe use of the products. Follow-up appointments are often necessary for adjustments to accommodate growth and condition changes.
