CarePartners Outpatient Services: Lee Silverman Voice Treatment® Therapy

Struggling with voice problems? Some people just want to read to their grandchildren, talk on the phone, or simply be heard and understood by family and friends at home and in social environments.
Lee Silverman Voice Treatment® (LSVT) Therapy helps individuals who have difficulties with voice and speech.
With Lee Silverman Voice Treatment® therapy, individuals with neurological disorders, particularly Parkinson’s disease, learn to improve volume, voice quality, and articulation. This in turn improves speech and sound production.
CarePartners Outpatient has experts trained in LSVT.
CarePartners has speech/language pathologists (speech therapists) who are trained and certified in Lee Silverman Voice Treatment®. In an initial LSVT assessment, the speech therapist takes “samples” of the voice by audio-taping the patient speaking. The patient and therapist then set realistic goals; for example, a goal may be regaining the ability to talk on the phone.
LSVT is an intensive four-week training program, consisting of one session a day, four days a week – a total of 16 sessions. The speech therapist helps the individual with exercises to promote vocal loudness, encouraging the patient to “think loud.” Family members are encouraged to participate by assisting with short practice sessions at home.
Is LSVT right for you?
The LSVT program is offered in the Outpatient Center and Home Health. Treatment is covered by Medicare and a referral from an ear, nose and throat doctor (ENT) or primary care physician is required.
