Spinal Cord Injury

A spinal cord injury can turn your world upside down. Limitations in movement and feeling may be temporary or permanent. “Will I ever walk again?” “Will I be in a wheelchair the rest of my life?” These are questions that we hear most often.
Getting your life back after spinal cord injury.
CarePartners has decades of experience helping individuals with spinal cord injury. We help you focus on your capabilities, not disabilities. For some patients that may include learning to walk again; for others, it may be adjusting to life using a wheelchair.
For most people with spinal cord injury, progress toward a productive, independent life is achievable with treatment designed to address your unique needs and abilities.
Highly trained experts in spinal cord injury are on your team.
Members of our Neuroscience Program team look at each person’s specific injury and circumstances to develop a treatment plan designed to restore the highest possible level of function and independence.
Patients who need 24-hour physician and nursing care are admitted to our inpatient program at CarePartners Rehabilitation Hospital in Asheville, North Carolina. They receive comprehensive care from a team of experts led by a physiatrist, a doctor who specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation. This interdisciplinary team includes therapists and nurses highly trained and experienced in spinal cord injury rehabilitation.
A nurse care manager coordinates the treatment plan. As patients progress in their rehab, care managers also help with the transition from one level of care to another.
Receive coordinated care at a level that’s right for you.
Spinal cord injury survivors who do not require inpatient rehabilitation, or who need extended therapy after an inpatient stay, may choose to continue their rehabilitation program with CarePartners Home Health or at one of CarePartners’ conveniently located outpatient clinics.
Comprehensive therapy and recovery support services to speed your progress.
Traditional rehabilitation therapies (such as physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy) may be part of your spinal cord injury treatment program, along with specialized programs and therapies available only through CarePartners. CarePartners also sponsors a Spinal Cord Injury Support Group that can help people with spinal cord injury and their families and caregivers.
How to find out if CarePartners is right for you.
Ask your doctor if CarePartners can help you. A CarePartners nurse or clinician can also determine how our services can meet your unique needs.
